The interest in adjuvant therapy has been especially high in the treatment of breast cancer. Women whose breast cancer has spread to the lymph glands under the armpit (axilla) have a high probability of cancer showing up in other parts of the body within 10 years after surgery. Studies have now shown that almost half the premenopausal women who otherwise would have a recurrence can be cured by adjuvant therapy.
